The Voice of Business In Action

Business Crime Watch -

Follow Up Meeting with the RCMP

Monday 8th marked the 3rd Business Crime Watch meeting held with the RCMP and Businesses facilitated by The Chamber. At the meeting, RCMP lead a session on current initiatives, successes, and the way forward. There was a good presentation on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design ways to safeguard your property and a question and answer session. In collaboration with the RCMP, local business owners and Mayor and Council the aim is to forge a strong network of support that effectively deters crime and safeguards our economic well-being. Inspector Troy Switzer presented a key initiative commencing May 1, 2024 which will see on foot (bicycles) and focused patrolling the downtown core.

There are some information kits at the Chamber's offices which businesses can pick up if they missed the session.

The Chamber is very thankful for the collaborative approach taken by Chief Superintendent Mark Hancock and his team. Listening to our concerns and working to ensure a safer and thriving environment for our downtown businesses.
It is important to note that there is a role for everyone in combating crime,  from property owners ensuring proper lighting, secured facilities, quality monitoring images as well as reporting all incidents to the city from city lighting and bylaws and of course the RCMP with effective policing.
